Safe Haven Home for Kids program
This program encourages and supports development of quality foster care for children in the care of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
St. Thomas’ Safe Haven Home was constructed in 2002 and deeded to St. Thomas Church by the City of Chicago and is one of seven (7) built throughout the city for foster care. This is a community church and public sector initiative pilot project sponsored by Mayor Richard Daley and the City of Chicago and partnered with Ada S. McKinley Community Services. Through the pilot program, foster care parents are identified, licensed and supervised.
The three-story home has five bedrooms and can accommodate 4 - 6 children and the foster parent(s). We provide emotional, spiritual, and financial support to the foster mother and nurturing and care for the foster children and other family members.
